2024 Mission – Gatanga Division, Murang’a County

August 4th - August 11th, 2024

Mission Field Preparation

  • Funds Collection from Tumaini members, Partners and Friends.

  • Missioners pay for their own expenses (accommodation, food etc) during mission.

  • 21 days of prayer and fasting

  • 2024 mission theme:-Jesus our savior, Provider and Deliverer. Romans 5:8-9, Ruth 1:6 and Esther 4:14”

Day 1 – Sunday, 4th August 2024

  • Meet and Greet Host church and pastors
  • Tumaini gives summary of activities for the week

Day 2 – Monday, 5th August 2024 Door-to-Door Mission

  • 40 out of the original list of 49 needy families were visited.

  • Families were divided into 8 groups.

  • Local churches provided one elder to accompany each group.

  • Shared love gifts – foodstuffs and cash

  • We not only gave love gifts but evangelized. 9 people got saved.

Day 3 – Tuesday 6th August 2024 - Youth Day

  • 1st Time in mission history to have a youth day – out of need
  • The age group we had targeted was between 13 yrs to 30 yrs.
  • At least 215 youth registered and attended
  • Speakers covered the following topics
    • Mental Health
    • Drugs and Alcohol addiction
    • Career Counselling
    • General life advise
  • Raffle prizes were won- Comforters, T-shirts, Bedsheets, perfumes, money etc.
  • Free lunched offered
  • Sermon delivered by Pastor Kelvin Waweru
  • 1 person got saved

Day 4 and 5 – Wed & Thu 7th and 8th August 2024 Free Medical Camp

  • All patients had vitals taken and underwent educational session.
  • 1,040 patients were registered and treaded for various ailments.
  • A summary of different departments.
    • Dental – Dr Mbius’ team treated about 197 patients.
    • Optometrist- Treated about 120 patients
    • Obstetrician / Gynecologist– Treated about 41 patients.
    • Reading glasses – 580 Reading glasses we handed out.
    • Clinicians – About 11 clinicians were available to treat.
    • Pharmacy – 2 Pharmacist and technologists dispensed the required medication.
    • Counselling and nutrition – Educational classes conducted to all patients before treatment.
    • Hygiene station where patients came and received sanitary items.
  • About 45 volunteers beside Tumaini brethren supported the days’ activities.
  • Partnered with Nyakera foundation who provided food supplements.
  • Senior government officials visited the camp.
  • During registration, there was one on one witnessing about Jesus and 14 people gave their lives to Christ.

Day 6 – Friday, 9th August 2024 Group I-Kirunguru Special School For The Mentally Challenged

  • The school was closed for holidays, but some teachers, parents and 12 student availed themselves.
  • The Principal highlighted the school challenges as:-
    • The dormitories were overcrowded and smelly
    • The school depends on well-wishers for food, government help is inadequate.
    • The school is critically short-staffed due to high workers turn over – The government doesn’t  pay on time
    • No therapist available to visit the school
    • No student transition after completion of school.
  • Tumaini donated food stuff – beans, rice, sugar soap etc.

Day 6 – Friday, 9th August 2024 Group II-Prison Ministry Kiambu Main Prison

  • Hosted by prison chaplain Rev. James Mwangi.
  • Invited to attend the prison lunch time service.
  • Wonderful praise and worship from the inmates.
  • Tumaini supported the prison guitar project – Bought 4 guitars & accessories.
  • Tumaini individual members visiting were touched by the needs of the inmates – Bought 4 TV sets and Soaps.
  • After the altar call,12 inmates gave their lives to Christ.

Day 7 & 8 – Sat & Sun , 10th & 11th August 2024 Open Air Crusade

  • Started with introduction of visiting families by our chairman
  • Saturday Preachers Mercy Njihia and Rev. Joseph Mwangi ministered on our theme “Jesus our savior, Provider and Deliverer. Romans 5:8-9, Ruth 1:6 and Ether 4:14”
  • The guest artist, Tumaini  and PCEA Nyaga led in the praise and worship.
  • On Sunday Missioners were divided to go attend and preach into different local churches in Nyaga area.
  • On Sunday guest speaker Bishop Meliyio gave the Word.
  • 3 people gave their lives to Christ during the 2 days crusade

Conclusion

  • The 2024 Mission trip was very successful. We give God all the GLORY!
  • God enabled us to :-

1.Visit 40 needy families.

2.Ministered, encouraged, counselled and prayed with over 200 youth.

3.Treat over 1,000 patients.

4.Distributed 580 reading glasses

5.Expand our medical camp scope

6.Visited and shared the word in prison

7.Visited special children home

8.Work seamlessly with our host, local churches  and local foundations

9.Established relationship with ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs

10.Above all 42 people gave their lives to Christ.
